1 Thessalonians Scripture References

Matthew 10:16-22
16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. 17 Be on your guard with men, for they will turn you over to councils and beat you with whips in synagogues. 18  You will be brought before governors and kings because of me, to testify before them, both Jews and non-Jews. 19 But when you are turned over to them, don’t even think about how or what you will say to them, for it will be given to you at the very time you will speak. 20 For it is not you who will be speaking, but the Spirit of your Father who will speak in you. 21 And brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his own child, and children will rise against their parents and have them put to death. 22 And you will be hated by all men for the sake of my name. But if you will bear all this until the end, you will be saved.”

Mat 10:16-22

Matthew 24:30-31
30 "And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky. Then all the tribes on earth will grieve. And they will gaze on the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with great power and glory. 31 And he will send his angels with the sound of a great blast of the trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other."

Mat 24:30-31
Luke 12:39

Luke 12:39
39 “You can be sure, if a homeowner knew what time a thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into.”

Acts 1:7
7 And he replied to then, “It’s not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has appointed in his authority.”

Acts 15:40

Acts 16:1-3
Paul [and Silas] made their way back to Derbe and Lystra. There was a disciple named Timothy, son of a Jewish woman, who was a believer, and a Greek father. Timothy had a good reputation among the brother believers in Lystra and Iconium. Paul wanted to take Timothy with them, so he had Timothy circumcised, because all of the Jews in the area knew that his father was Greek.

Acts 16:1-3
Acts 16:19-24

Acts 16:19-24
19 When the girl’s masters saw that their hope of continuing to make money was gone, they laid hold of them [Paul and Silas] and dragged them to the public square in front of the authorities. 20 They brought them before the militia and said, “These men are Jews, and they are making a disturbance in our city. 21 They are teaching people to do things which are against the Law to listen to or to follow as Romans.” 22 While the crowd rose up against them, the militia tore off Paul and Silas’ clothing and ordered they be beaten. 23 And when they had been thoroughly whipped, the militia cast them into prison, ordering the jailor to keep them secure. 24 The jailor, receiving such a serious order, moved them to the innermost part of the prison, and secured their feet in the stocks.

Acts 17:1-15

Acts 17:1-15
1 After passing through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue. 2 In Paul’s usual manner, he went into the synagogue for three Sabbath Days and reasoned with them about the scriptures. 3 He presented and reasoned Jews, “The Anointed One had to suffer and then rise from the dead. The one I am preaching about is the Anointed One, Jesus.” 4 Some of them were convinced and joined Paul and Silas, including a large group of Greek believers and quite a few of the leading women. 5 But the Jews were jealous, so they gathered a mob from wicked men they found in the marketplace and caused a riot in the city. They attacked the house of Jason [where Paul’s team had been staying], demanding that they be brought out to face the people. 6 But when the attackers didn’t find them there, instead they dragged Jason and others among the believing brothers in front of the city officials, claiming, “These are the men who have turned things upside down all over the world, and now they have come here, 7 and Jason has kept them in his house. They are acting against the commands of Caesar, claiming there is another king named Jesus.” 8 And this upset all the people and the city officials when they heard these things. 9 After fines had been paid on behalf of Jason and the others, they were let go. 10 The brother believers that very night arranged for Paul and Silas to leave the city heading towards Berea. When they arrived, they went to the synagogue. 11 The Jews there were more open than in Thessalonica, receiving the word with a willing mind, searching the scriptures daily to see whether the things Paul said were true. 12 As a result, many of them believed, including many Greeks, and quite a few noble women and men. 13 But when the Jews in Thessalonica learned that Paul was now preaching the word of God in Berea, they came there also and stirred up trouble among the people. 14 At once the brother believers sent Paul away to the sea, but Silas and Timothy stayed there. 15 The men who took Paul to Athens received instructions to Silas and Timothy to come join him as quickly as they could, so they departed.

Acts 18:1-8

Acts 18:1-8
1 After all this, [Paul] departed from Athens and arrived in Corinth. 2 There he found a Jewish man named Aquila, born in Pontus, who recently had moved from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded the Jews to leave Rome. 3 Paul came to them because they worked at the same trade.  Paul stayed with them and worked with them, for they were tentmakers by trade. 4 And every Sabbath Day, in the synagogue, Paul reasoned and sought to bring to agreement both Jews and Greeks. 5 When Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia, Paul devoted himself to preaching the message to the Jews that Jesus was the Anointed One. 6 But they resisted and spoke against him, so he violently shook his robe and said to them, “Your blood is upon your own heads, I am clean from it. From now on I will go to the non-Jewish peoples. 7 He left them and entered the house of a man named Justus who worshipped God and lived next to the synagogue. 8 And the chief leader of the synagogue, Crispus, came to belief in the Lord along with his whole family. And many of the Corinthians heard the message, believed, and were baptized.

Rom 12:9-21

Romans 12:9-21
9 Love sincerely. Hate evil. Cling to what is good. 10 Love your brothers with devotion and honor. 11 Be eager and not lazy. Serve the Lord with the fire of the Spirit. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient through trial, persevering in prayer. 13 Share with those in need within the community, be hospitable to strangers. 14 Bless those who persecute you – bless instead of cursing them! 15 Celebrate with those who are celebrating. Mourn with those who mourn. 16 Treat all the same, and do not look down on anyone. Don’t think yourself wise. 17 Don’t repay evil with evil. Do what is right in the sight of all. 18 To the extent possible on your part, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not pay back evil but leave it to [God’s] vengeance. For the scripture says, “‘I will take vengeance. I will repay’, says the Lord.” 20 Therefore, if your enemy is hungry, feed him. Or if thirsty, give him a drink. “For by so doing, you will pile up coals of fire on his head”.  21 Do not let evil conquer you but conquer evil with good.

1 Cor 9:11-12

1 Corinthians 9:11-12
11 If we [Paul and Barnabas] have planted spiritual seed in you, is it a big deal for us to gain our material needs from you? 12 If others already have the right to participate in your blessings, shouldn't we even more so have that right? Yet, we have never used that right, bearing with whatever we must, rather than holding back in any way your receiving the Good News of the Anointed One.

1 Cor 12:21-22

1 Corinthians 15:21-22
21 For by a man came death, so by [another] man came resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in the Anointed One all are made alive.

1 Corinthians 15:51-52
51 Look! Let me let you in on a secret! Not all of us will fall asleep [die], but every one of us will be changed 52 in an instant, in an eye-blink, at the final trumpet blast. For at the trumpet, the dead [who know Jesus] will all be raised imperishable [transformed into their resurrection bodies], and we [who follow Jesus and have not died] will be changed [transformed into our resurrection bodies].

1 Cor 15:51-52

2 Corinthians 12:1-7
1 I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— was caught up to paradise and heard inexpressible things, things that no one is permitted to tell. I will boast about a man like that, but I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses. Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say, or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.

2 Cor 12:1-7
Gal 1:11-12

Galatians 1:11-12

11 But I assure you, brothers, that the Good News I have preached is not according to men. 12 I didn’t receive it from men nor was I taught it, but I received it from Jesus, the Anointed One.

Galatians 1:15-17
15 But it pleased God who, from my mother’s womb, had set me apart and called me by his grace 16 to reveal his Son in me that I might preach the good news about Him among the non-Jewish peoples. I didn’t immediately consult flesh and blood. 17 Nor did I go up to Jerusalem to them who were apostles before me, but instead I departed to Arabia and later returned to Damascus.

Gal 1:15-17

Galatians 2:2,6
2 The Lord had shown me to come and privately share with those who were known to be the leaders [Peter and John and James] the Good News I preach among the non-Jews, in case I had been proceeding in vain and my efforts had been wasted….6 But these well-known leaders had nothing to add to my Good News.

Gal 2:2,6
Eph 4:17-32

Ephesians 4:17-32
17 Therefore, I say to you out of my experience in the Lord - stop living like unbelievers live, 18 with their minds unable to grasp the truth, their ability to understand veiled, excluded from experiencing the life of God because of their lack of knowledge, all of which results from the hardness of their hearts. 19 They no longer feel any shame, having given themselves over to unrestrained immorality, fulfilling their lust with all sorts of impurity. 20 But these are not things you learned from the life of the Anointed One, 21 if in fact you have listened to and been taught by the Anointed One, for the truth is found in the Anointed One. 22 Renounce your old self and former behavior which are corrupted by sinful desires which lead you astray. 23 Let your thoughts be transformed through the Spirit, 24 and put on your new self which is created in God's image with righteousness and with true holiness. 25 Therefore, we must stop lying to one another, but always speak the truth to our neighbor, since we are members together of the same body. 26 If you are angry, don't let it turn to sin - deal with it before the end of the day. 27 Don't give the devil any opportunity to bring accusation against you. 28 Whoever was formerly a thief must steal no longer. Instead, let him work hard, using his hands for good, so that he may possess enough to give to others who have need. 29 Don't let any unwholesome words out of your mouth, but instead speak only that which builds up and which blesses those listening. 30 Let the measure of everything you do be whether it would cause grief to God's Holy Spirit, whom you possess as the mark of God's ownership until the day when he fulfills his redemption of you. 31 Let all resentment, outrage, vengeful thoughts, shouts of anger, and cursing be completely removed from you, along with all desire to strike back at others. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, compassionate and forgiving each other, just as God, because of the Anointed One, has forgiven you.

Ephesians 6:14,17
14 Take your stand then with truth as the belt around your waist… 17 Receive salvation as your helmet and use the word of God as given by the Spirit as your sword.

Eph 6:14,17

1 Thessalonians 3:1-4
1 When we couldn’t stand it any longer [to not be in communication with you], we thought it worth being left in Athens alone, 2 and so sent Timothy, our brother [believer] and servant of God and fellow worker in the Good News of the Anointed One, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith. 3 We hoped no one among you would be upset by these troubles [the persecutions that cut short the stay of Paul’s team in Thessalonika], since you yourselves know that we are appointed to have them. 4 In fact, when we were with you, we told you to expect we would suffer trials, and as you know, that’s what happened!

1 Thess 3:1-4
2 Pet 3:4

2 Peter 3:4
They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”
